Description:

Camp Frontier Summer Camp

Founded in 1999, it is the mission of Camp Frontier to provide an outstanding traditional American summer camp experience to boys and girls age six to fourteen. We strive to meet each camper's individual needs by providing a supportive environment and child-centered program which allows campers to select his or her own schedule of activities in addition to team events and cabin programs.

Our campers come from throughout Florida, the United States and internationally (from 27 countries as of 2008). Our campers represent many backgrounds and faiths.

Important: While we applaud programs for youth with severe behavioral problems, Camp Frontier is designed for those often overlooked children who are on track and under control. We believe that they deserve a summer with like peers. Campers with violent and disobedient behavior are sent home.

Camp Frontier is proud to be "The Camp For Good Kids".

Enrollment and Registration
Space Is Limited: For each session, registration is accepted for 102 OverNight/C.I.T. Campers and weekly, for up to 30 Day Campers. With more than 40% of our Campers returning each summer, parents are recommended to register as early as possible. Registration is presently available online.

Cabin Life and Staff

Campers and Counselors are housed in large fresh-air cabins with comfortable bunk-beds, lights and fans. There are separate boys and girls cabin areas each with three cabins:
Trailblazer Cabin (age 8 to 10), Explorer Cabin (age 11 & 12) and Pioneer Cabin (age 13 & 14)
Counselors are carefully selected to ensure that Campers are cared for and supervised at all times. Taking time to get to know each child, staff initiate the building of friendships and work to develop a respectful and positive team environment. All camp staff undergo extensive interviews, a thorough background check and drug-screening upon request. Staff is held to the highest of moral standards at all times.

Activities and Programs

Arts & Crafts

Campers enjoy many craft and performing arts activities offered every weekday at Camp Frontier. These include Crafts, Camp Choir, Ceramics and Clay, Computer Animation, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Painting, Puppet Theatre, Talent Show and Wood Working.

Challenge & Ropes Course
Our first class Challenge Course program offers numerous activities under the patient guidance of trained and experienced instructors. Our Campers grow in confidence and self-esteem, challenge themselves as individuals and build team-work skills as they participate in over twenty progressive activities. The course includes swinging vines, cat-walk, boson hoops, horizontal, tube and crawl nets, a giant swing, a 150 yard zip-line and more. The course also features island platform games and a boulder climbing wall. All campers wear protective headgear and harnesses at all times and are double-clipped to safety cables. Due to our quality equipment and safety procedures, we have never had a serious injury.

C.I.T. Program

Our Counselor-In-Training program is for High Schoolers who would one day like to become Counselors . (One completed year of High School and the approval of the Camp Director is required for enrollment.) Having been Camp Frontier campers themselves, these exceptional and select youth meet with the C.I.T. Directors daily for training in many camp areas such as caring for campers, basic first-aid, water safety, leadership skills, and activity instruction. When not in training sessions, C.I.T.'s select and participate in all camp activities and are chosen to assist with many camp activities. C.I.T.'s  completing two four week sessions graduate from the program and may be invited to return as Counselors Assistants the following summer.

Equestrian (Horse) Program
Our established Horse Program is designed for riders of every skill level and experience. Available each weekday morning, classes are lead by qualified riding instructors. From the very beginning, safety and fun are the priority. Beginning riders learn the basics of horse control and work to master horse care skills such as feeding, grooming and tacking. Intermediate and advanced riders build upon existing riding skills and progress to the limits of their abilities. All campers have many opportunities for lessons and may choose to participate in trail-rides on miles of trails which wind through our 204 beautiful wooded acres. Our horse facility is American Pony Club approved. The Director of our Horse Program is Horsemanship Safety Association certified.

OutDoor Life
Campers have many opportunities to participate in a variety of OutDoor Life activities such as a Canoe Trip on the beautiful Little Manatee River, learning fire-building skills, orienteering, and an overnight tent camping trip which includes cooking out dinner and enjoying s'mores around a campfire with bunkmates.

Paintball
Experienced Paintball enthusiasts and beginners alike will enjoy our paintball program and facility. This popular activity (added in 2008), provides many opportunities skill and confidence building under the watchful guidance of our experienced staff. Hours of play are available each day. All paintballs and equipment are provided at no additional cost.

SkatePark
Our SkatePark program allows boys and girls of all ages and many skill levels to learn and enjoy the sport of skateboarding and inline skating. With dozens of activity areas, excellent facilities and experienced staff, all campers have access to hours of fun, instruction and great exercise. Campers wear safety equipment at all times.

Sports

Our Sports Program is both recreational and provides instruction intended to improve athletic ability and a sense of accomplishment. Campers of every skill level may participate.
